The meeting comes at a critical moment as fears of the party’s split have mounted after the rival faction within the party proceeded with the Special General Convention. While leaders from the establishment camp have questioned its legality, the rival faction has maintained that the Special General Convention is being as per the party’s statute.
Amid the ongoing standoff, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka have been tasked with holding direct talks with the two General Secretaries in an effort to save party unity and prevent a split as the Special General Convention has its agenda to bring change in the party’s leadership.
