KATHMANDU, March 22 : British Council launched one of its most well received publications 'Creativity in the English language classroom' at Hotel Yak & Yeti in Durbar Marg on Monday. The book 'is suitable for teachers of both primary and secondary levels to nurture and develop creativity in students attending public and private schools.'

Edited by Alan Maley and Nik Peachey, the book has 18 chapters and is a collection of practical ideas to bring creativity into classrooms.Country Director of British Council Nepal Dr Jovan Ilic stressed on the importance of encouraging children to be creative in and outside the classroom. He also pointed out that the book has simple ideas that can be integrated into any class.

Present as the chief guest for the event, Khagaraj Baral, Executive Director of National Center for Educational Development under the Ministry of Education, spoke about the importance of changing the teaching techniques.

"Our teachers have been using traditional methods to tutor students. They teach just the way they themselves were taught. The technique has been the same for the last 30 years which includes loud reading. The teacher reads and asks the students to follow him. It's long past time we started giving more emphasis to teachers training," he said.

The pdf version of the book can be downloaded from englishagenda.britishcouncil.org.
