"Unless and until authorities assured athletes about their future we can´t expect development. Even if a sportsperson dedicates his life to sports by ignoring his education he gets nothing," lamented Acharya, speaking in a sports speech series organized by Nepal Sports Foundation in the capital on Friday. "I quit sports after playing a single international tournament in 1976 because I wanted to continue education rather than sports," he added.
Acharya donated the Rs 5,000 he received from the foundation for his speech to Nepal Volleyball Association.
Acharya had led Nepali volleyball team in 1976 in the Quaid-e-Azam Invitational Volleyball Tournament held in Pakistan.
