KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Born in the United Arab Emirates, Sharad Vesawkar became the third Nepali cricketer following Raju Khadka and Shakti Gauchan to score an international century, during the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division Five. Popular among his supporters as an attacking batsman, Sharad has been in the cricketing field for around 13 years. He won millions of hearts during the 2013 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers held in Bangladesh last year when he became a major catalyst for Nepal's entry in the T20 World Cup.

These days he is also involved at Human Values for Peace and Prosperity (HVPP), an NGO that aims to empower individuals, where he is able to connect with his spiritual self. Here are five lesser known things about him.He plays the piano

This batsman, currently ranked 97th in the ICC T20I, is equally good at pressing the right keys in a piano. Ever since he was gifted a piano by his father, Sharad has been playing it. "But of course, I don't know how to do it like the professionals. I can play couple of songs like Hotel California, which is one of my favorites," he says. Learning how to play the piano like a pro is in his bucket list, too.

He meditates, every day

Sharad has maintained the habit of meditating every day for three years now. He wakes up at 7 AM, works out, and then sits down to meditate. He finds it relaxing and helps improve his focus, which eventually leads him to perform well in cricket matches.

He is slightly superstitious

"All cricketers are superstitious in some ways," the athlete says. Thus, when things are going good and the team is playing well, other players are often asked to stay put in their respective places so as not to jinx the match. So, even if a player has to pee, s/he won't be allowed to leave their position. "But during such an intense moment, you won't really have to pee," Sharad quips.

He prefers vegetarian food

This 27-year-old sportsman is not a vegetarian but prefers a vegetarian diet. "I feel much lighter when I eat vegetables," he says. However, because he travels a lot, avoiding meat isn't always feasible. In the future, though, he plans on being a complete vegetarian. "Probably in my 40s," he shares.

After being done with cricket, he plans to explore Nepal

When his career as a cricketer comes to an end, Sharad plans to travel to different parts of Nepal and explore its natural as well as cultural beauty. "I want to be able to understand Nepal and help fellow Nepalis in some ways. We're already doing that through HVPP, but maybe after my career in cricket, I would be able to do more of it," he says.
