KATHMANDU, Jan 2: CPN-UML has recommended Milan Gurung, also known as Chakre Milan, as its candidate for the House of Representatives (HoR) election from Gorkha-2. Following the nomination, Gurung’s Facebook wall has been flooded with congratulatory messages.
Gurung, who has a history of criminal allegations and past gang-related activities, was selected by the party for the direct election slot. He claims to have been active in the UML for the past 30 years and has consistently engaged in social work and politics.

Gurung’s legal record is extensive. He has been arrested multiple times, most recently in August last year by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office at a hotel in Maharajgunj. He and his supporters faced allegations of intimidating the public but were released on bail. He has also been implicated in a separate murder case in Bhaktapur, for which he was again released on bail. According to the police Criminal Record System (CRS), Gurung has been implicated in more than 12 cases.
Gurung is the son of a former Gorkha Army personnel and hails from Siranchok Rural Municipality-5, Gorkha. He resided in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, where he built a reputation as a don under the name Chakre. After joining the UML in 1990, he expanded his influence in Maharajgunj, consolidating local networks and reportedly earning commissions from sand contracts.
