Popularly known as Maghi, the festival has special significance for them. It is considered bring hope, happiness and prosperity in their life. Chichara fish is a special dish of the community served on this occasion.
Though the school celebrated this festival in past years also, this year it had used it to promote Tharu culture. The event displayed materials related to Tharu culture, custom and lifestyle, said festival co-coordinator Narayan Prasad Mahato. He said that items like the fish net, clay pots, Tharu delicacies and among others attracted visitors.
The event served various Tharu fisch delicacies like Chichara, Ghunghi. Along with that, various stalls showcased various agriculture products. Sanjay Chaudhari, one of the organizers, said that the event was given commercial feel for promoting business among the community members.
Along with games for children, national level singers and artist performed at the festival. Among others, singers Milan Lama, Ram Chandra Kafle, Shiva Pariyar, Manoj Mahato, Hari Yonjan gave live performance. The festival that kicked off on Wednesday will end on Sunday.
