KATHMANDU, May 19: Top leaders of the three major political parties—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML—discussed contemporary political issues during a meeting held in the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning.

The meeting discussed ways to resolve disputes related to constitution writing, in particular, the 11-province model for state restructuring, earlier agreed the three major parties, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel told reporters after the meeting. [break]

He, however, did not say anything specific if the leaders agreed to readjust their previous stances on federalism to reach an understanding agreeable to all. The 11-province proposal has come under fire from Madhes-based parties.

At the meeting, the leaders also decided to hold further consultation for early resolution of issues impeding constitution writing and expressed their resolve to promulgate the new constitution by the May 27 deadline.
