KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The five ruling political parties are close to agreeing on seat distribution for the upcoming elections slated for November 20. In a meeting held on Thursday at the Prime Minister's residence, Baluwatar, the top leaders gathered to forge consensus on the constituencies of some districts of Madhesh Province.

Corruption on the rise in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: Even as corruption has been on the rise in Nepal, the cases registered by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority are becoming weaker. Of the cases registered by the Authority (CIAA) at the Special Court in the financial year 2078/079, corruption was proved in only about 39 percent cases. The Special Court has acquitted many corruption-accused, citing lack of enough evidence.

LSP's circular to protest against President Bhandari

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) executive committee has issued a circular to its subordinate committees to hold nationwide protests against President Bidya Devi Bhandari's refusal to certify the Citizenship Bill.

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: A constitutional and political crisis has arisen in the country after President Bidya Devi Bhandari crossed the constitutional limits and refused to certify the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Article 113 (3) of the Constitution gives the President the authority to send the bills other than finance bills within 15 days with a message for reconsideration. However, the Constitution does not allow the President to return the bill or not certify it for a second time. According to Article 113 (4), the bill shall be verified within 15 days after it has been passed by the federal parliament with amendments or in the same form.
