KATHMANDU, Sept 22: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding that the posts of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker Pushpa Bhusal be vacated.

Advocates Kishore Paudel, Jagannath Dulal and Anupam Bhattarai filed the petition against the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Office, the Law Ministry and the Federal Parliament Secretariat on Thursday, citing the rule that they will remain in office only until the day before the filing of nominations for the next election to the House of Representatives.

As the Election Commission has already published the closed list of the proportional representation of the House of Representatives, the petition has demanded stopping using the service and other perks and benefits provided to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker until the final edge of the case is reached. The petition is scheduled for a hearing on Friday.
