DHANUSHA, Feb 11: Police have arrested Raksha Kumari Mandal, 35, on charge of murdering her 65-year-old mother-in-law, Samundri Devi Mandal, in Udha of Janaka Nandani Rural Municipality-5.

Police officials from the Area Police Office, Khajuri, took Raksha Kumari into custody on Tuesday night after reports emerged that Samundri Devi had died on the spot following a scuffle over a domestic dispute.

According to Inspector Jeevan Kunwar, chief of the Khajuri APO, the incident occurred at 8:40 pm, and police arrived at the scene half an hour later. The body was found by the deceased’s daughter-in-law. Villagers and the victim’s husband accused Raksha Kumari of murder, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation.

However, Inspector Kunwar said that there was no physical altercation on the day of the incident. The last known dispute between the two reportedly took place 2-3 months ago. Samundri Devi was an asthma patient whose health had been deteriorating over the years.

The Dhanusha District Court has granted police a five-day extension for further investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem and authorities will determine the cause of death based on the report.
