DHANUSHA, June 14: District Police Office, Dhanusha, has arrested a man in connection with the murder of a single woman in Dhanusha, whose body was found buried in a pit.

The arrested individual has been identified as 22-year-old Om Lal Mandal, a house builder from Kalaiya sub-metropolitan city-18 in Bara district. He is currently residing in Janakpurdham.

According to police, the incident took place on June 8 when Mandal killed Das while nobody else was present at her residence. Subsequently, Mandal buried her body near a pond located close to the house before fleeing the scene.

SP Khadka revealed that after murdering Das, Mandal transported her body to the vicinity of a nearby pond and hastily dug a hole in an attempt to expedite decomposition.

At the time of the incident, Das's son had gone to visit his in-laws with his wife. The deceased woman had been involved in a dispute with Mandal, who frequently visited her residence.

Police investigation suggests that Das was strangled to death by Mandal after she attempted to escape when he slapped her during a heated argument regarding their relationship. Authorities suspect an immoral relationship between the two.

With the assistance of Chitwan police, Mandal was successfully apprehended. Das had allegedly been putting pressure on Mandal to marry her due to their romantic relationship. Despite Mandal's attempts to distance himself, the deceased woman managed to locate and bring him back home.

The body of the deceased has been sent to Provincial Hospital in Janakpur for a post-mortem examination, according to Dhanusha Police.
