The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed corruption case against 34 police officials including Bista and two contractors accusing them of embezzling about Rs 290 million while procuring armored personnel carriers (APCs) and other logistics for Nepali peacekeepers deployed in Darfur, Sudan.
“The court sent Bista to Dilli Bazaar jail as he couldn´t submit the bail amount as sought by the bench,” Special Court Registrar Dhir Bahadur Chand told Republica.
Following the initial hearing over former AIG Bista´s involvement in the scam, a bench comprising Special Court Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Chalise had sought a bail of Rs 10 million concluding that preliminary evidences substantiate CIAA´s claim that Bista was directly involved in the scam.
Bista is the second accused police official to be sent to judicial custody.
