KATHMANDU, March 24: The Kanchanpur District Court has ordered former SP Dilli Raj Bista to pay Rs. 1.5 million in bail amount. Bista is one of the eight police officers who allegedly destroyed evidence of Nirmala Panta’s brutal rape and murder last year.
The court has fined Bista of Rs. 600,000 for torturing suspects and Rs. 450,000 for destroying the evidence.

The bench of Justice Rajendra Kumar Acharya had decided to split the bail into two parts, registrar Hari Krishna Awasthi said.
Bista had surrendered to the court on March 19, a week after the Kanchanpur District Court issued a warrant against him and Central Investigation Bureau DSP Angur GC. GC is yet to present himself before the court.
Likewise, DSP Gyan Bahadur Sethi and Inspector Ekendra Khadka were freed after furnishing a bail amount of Rs 900,000 each. Inspector Jagadish Bhatta has bailed out for Rs 400,000, while sub-inspectors Hari Singh Dhami and Ram Singh Dhami have bailed out for Rs 350,000 and Rs. 300,000, respectively. Constable Chandani Saud was freed after she furnished bail of Rs 200,000.
