Rai will be eligible to set up her own law firm in Hong Kong after working two more years in law firms run by other solicitors. When he arrived in Hong Kong a few years back after completing SLC from Dharan and +2 from Kathmandu, she, too, worked in a restaurant like most Nepali women here.
Before the PCL from City University, she achieved Diploma and Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of Hong Kong. “Tired of working for others and deciding to do something on my own, I enrolled at the University of Hong Kong,” said Rai, “It took time for me to complete my studies while working. At last, I have achieved my aim.”
She has been looking after the cases such as personal injury, crime and divorce at a law firm run by a Chinese group.
Recalling her struggle, Rai added that she could complete her studies due to encouragement from her parents and friends as it was difficult study and work at the same time. According to Rai, her most of the clients are Indian, Nepali and Pakistani nationals.
It may be noted here that Narayan Sharma is the first registered male solicitor of the Nepali origin in Hong Kong. He has been working in the legal sector since 2010.
