KATHMANDU, April 8: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in coordination with the Himalayan Rescue Association, the Tourist Police, and Nepal Tourist Vehicles Association, ran a shuttle bus service for the Nepali and foreign air-passengers between the airport and various hotels to minimize the effect of a general strike called by the 30-party opposition alliance led by UCPN Maoist.
According to NTB Media Consultant Sarad Pradhan, NTB provided shuttle bus service to make it easy for air-passengers going to and coming from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). “We fixed the fare at Rs 300 per passenger. They were required first show their air ticket before getting into the bus,” Pradhan told Republica, adding that NTB had planned to continue the service if the strikes had continued on through Wednesday and Thursday.

The agitating opposition alliance called of their strike plans for Wednesday and Thursday late on Tuesday. The tourist buses started their rounds from 6:00 am in the morning and went around three different routes, covering almost all areas where a majority of tourists generally stay inside the Kathmandu Valley stay.
The first route ran from TIA-Nepal Airlines Corporation in New Road-Hotel Annapurna-Hotel Yak & Yeti-central Thamel-Lainchour Chowk-Hotel Shanker-TIA. The second route ran from TIA-Hotel Shangrila-Narayan Gopal Chowk-Maharajgunj Chowk-Hyatt Regency-Chabahil Chowk -Hotel Dwarika-TIA. The third route was from TIA-Tinkune Chowk- Everest Hotel-Maitighar Chowk-Hotel Himalaya-St Xavier’s School- Crowne Plaza Kathmandu Soaltee-Hotel Grand-to-TIA.
