KATHMANDU, Nov 9: At a time when the capital is in need of a suitable exhibition ground, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCC) in assistance with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) is preparing to construct a temporary exhibition park on the premises of Teku-based UN Park.

The government has shown interest in constructing the exhibition ground after FNCCI sent a proposal in this regard two months ago. With the one and only existing exhibition hall in the capital -- Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall -- organizers of big events and fairs have been demanding a new and wider space to organize exhibitions. Moreover, fair organizers have been complaining about lack of facilities in the existing exhibition hall at Bhrikuti Mandap. [break]

“To organize big events at Bhrikuti Mandap is our compulsion rather than choice,” Shekhar Golchha, president of Nepal Automobile Dealers´ Association (NADA) had said at a function about a month ago. NADA has been organizing NADA Auto Show annually at the Exhibition Hall.

However, FNCCI and the government have realized the need for big and wider exhibition venue and are all set to construct a temporary exhibition park near Teku.

According to Hemant Dabadi, director general of FNCCI, the construction of temporary exhibition park on UN Park premises will commence after a few months. “Our proposal of constructing an exhibition venue has been approved by the government. Once we sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government, works will proceed in this regard,” Dabadi told Republica.

According to him, the exhibition park will be constructed near Teku in around 90 ropanies of land. Dabadi further informed that FNCCI would manage funds for the project as soon as the MoU gets signed.

Kishwor Thapa, secretary of MoUD said the proposal of FNCCI has been approved as the country lacks spacious exhibition venues to conduct big programs. “We will join hands with FNCCI and expedite the construction process,” Thapa says.

Thapa also informed that the new park will only provide spacious venue for the organizers of big fairs.
