BIRGUNJ, June 26: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Upendra Yadav has claimed that some leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML are against promulgating the new constitution.

Addressing the district-level gathering of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) in Parsa on Sunday, Minister Yadav, who is also the chairman of MPRF, accused the NC and UML leaders of trying to dissolve the Constituent Assembly (CA).[break]

“Nobody can stop Madhes from being declared an autonomous region if the constitution is drafted on time,” said Yadav. “Some leaders are against an autonomous Madhes. So they are trying to dissolve the CA.”

Yadav claimed that leaders of various political parties including those from Madhes-based parties are trying to dissolve the CA dancing to India´s tune. He accused Krishna Prasad Sitaula from NC, KP Oli from UML, Bijaya Gachchhadar from MPRF (Democratic) and Mahantha Thakur from Tarai Madhes Democratic Party of conspiring to dissolve the CA.

Yadav said the split of various parties was part of the conspiracy. “Attempts to dissolve the CA and bring the president in power will never materialize,” he added.

He urged the party cadres not to be upset by the latest split in MPRF. "Our party didn´t split. Only some CA members have left the party,” he said.
