National beach volleyball in Itahari

KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) is set to hold the Fifth Men's and Fourth Women's National Beach Volleyball Tournament in Itahari, Sunsari from December 18-20.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Friday, NVA informed that all five regions and all three departmental teams--Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club and Armed Police Force Club--will participate in the tournament in both the sections.Dan Bahadur Tamang, president of NVA, said that the tournament will be played at the artificial beach of Shanti Tole, Itahari and the tournament will serve as the selection event for the Asian Central Zone event to be hosted by Sri Lanka.

"Nepal has medal chances in women's beach volleyball in South Asian level events as most of the Muslim country do not allow women for beach volleyball, so we have been promoting the event in the country," said Tamang.

The tournament will be held in league-cum-knockout format and winners, runners-up and teams finishing third and fourth in both sections will bag Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 each along with medals and trophies. According to Tamang, the tournament is expected to cost Rs 10,00,000.
