Min Bahadur Bham's 'Kalo Pothi' ('The Black Hen') will be screened in the 'A Window on Asian Cinema' category alongside with 51 films from 32 Asian countries.
Sushan Prajapati's short film 'Laaz' ('The Shame') will be premiering at the 'Asian Short Film Competition' with nine other films from eight different countries.
Prajapati is a cinematographer ('Singha Durbar') and producer ('Apabaad', 'Saanghuro', and 'Karkash') who is making his debut as a director with 'Laaz.'
"I felt that I had made a good film, so I was expecting it to be selected. Since this is my debut work as a director, I was very excited when I found out that the film had made it. I first shared the news with my family," he said.
The short film is 20-minute long and is based on Ajit Lamichhane's story of a kamaiya who has to deal with his new found freedom. Chabilal Choudhary plays the central character in the film.
'Kalo Pothi' will also be premiering at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival in September. The first Nepali film to be chosen for this prestigious film festival, the 90-minute long film is set during the civil war in Nepal.
The film has been shot in Mugu and stars Khadka Raj Nepali, Sukra Raj Rokaya, and Benisha Hamal among others.
