KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Eminent Nepali Cardiologist Dr Bhagawan Koirala has been conferred the title of ‘Honorary Overseas Fellow’ by the Indian Association for Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS).
In the 71st Annual conference of the IACTS held in New Delhi on February 20-23, Dr Koirala was recognized by the Indian association for his extraordinary and distinctive contributions to the field of cardiovascular-thoracic medicine and surgery.
Dr Koirala took to Facebook on Thursday to share his achievement and thank his co-workers and former co-workers for their help during his career.
He wrote, “It was an honor to be recognized by [the] Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and be awarded “Honorary Overseas Fellow”. Thanks to my current and former team members.”
Dr Koirala is a pioneer open-heart surgeon of Nepal having led the Nepali team which performed the first open-heart surgery in Nepal on February 20, 1997. Coincidentally, Dr Koirala was awarded the honorary fellowship exactly 27 years after the first open-heart surgery of Nepal.
