SURKHET, June 8: Mid-Western University has decided to award an honorary doctorate to litterateur Jhamak Kumari Ghimire. The university announced the decision on Tuesday at its fifth senate meeting presided over by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chancellor of the university.
"Mid-Western University's Senate meeting has decided to present an honorary doctorate to Ghimire," Vice-Chancellor Prof Upendra Kumar Koirala said. "The honorary PhD will be awarded to her at the university's first convocation to be held soon."
Litterateur Jhamak conferred with honorary doctorate
Ghimire, who was born into a poor family in Dhankuta, has also bagged the prestigious Madan Puraskar for her autobiography Jeevan Kanda Ki Phool (2011), which has been published in different languages. Besides, she has also received dozens of awards for publishing over a dozen literary materials, including Sankalpa, Be Mausam Ka Aastha Haru, Manchhe Bhitraka Yoddaharu, and Quaati.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Western University senate has also decided to set up eight different campuses as its constituent campuses. After the proposed eight campuses are set up, the university will have 18 constituent campuses.
