KATHMANDU, May 8: The government has decided to relieve honorary consuls serving in 15 different foreign locations from their responsibilities.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Friday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at a press briefing, ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said the Cabinet had approved the dismissal of Nepali honorary consuls general and honorary consuls stationed abroad.
Those relieved of their duties include honorary representatives based in California, Massachusetts and Seattle in the United States; Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia; as well as New Zealand, Klang Valley in Malaysia, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Rehovot City in Israel.
The decision also applies to honorary consuls serving in Nicosia, Cyprus; NRW, Bremen and Lower Saxony in Germany; along with Warsaw, Slovenia and Malta.
According to the ministry, the move was made in line with provisions under the Honorary Consul Regulations, 2039 (Sixth Amendment), taking into account the necessity and relevance of maintaining such positions in those locations.
