DANG, April 17: Police on Wednesday arrested a Youth Association Nepal (YAN) leader with a home-made pistol.

Ganesh Nepali, coordinator of the Ghorahi town committee of YAN, was arrested from his house in Ghorahi-11, Dang along with Prem Budha of Nayabazaar Kathmandu on Tuesday night.[break]

Nepali was on the police watch list as he was accused of firing bullets at Bikash Gurung’s house in Dang. “They had been absconding since a long time,” SP Lokendra Bahadur Malla, chief of Dang police said.

Nepali involved in ‘traffic cops apology’ incident

Nepali has time and again been in controversy for his notorious activities.

Earlier, around 13 traffic police personnel posted at Dang Traffic Office had threatened to resign en masse after their colleagues had to apologize for ‘performing their duty’ in February last year.

Then, the traffic police on duty had stopped a motorcycle ridden by Nepali and one Bibek Shrestha as the rider was found without helmet. Following the incident, YAN cadres descended on streets saying their leaders were ‘manhandled’ and demanding a public apology from traffic police officers.

Feeling humiliated for having apologized even though they were just performing their duty, all of them had publicly taken off their uniform in protest. They had said they were extremely demoralized after having to apologize and wanted to resign.
