Woman footballer Magar undergoes surgery

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: National woman footballer Manmaya Magar will be out of action for a year as she has undergone a surgery last week.



Magar had sustained injury to her left knee during a training session for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) eight months ago. The injury confined Magar on the bench during the SAG held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. [break]



Dr Ajay Rana of National Sports Council (NSC) suggested her to undergo a surgery after an MRI report showed a tear in the ligament of her left knee. Dr Deepak Prakash Mahara operated her knee last Wednesday at the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.



NSC has provided Rs 50,000 to Magar for treatment. According to Magar, she has spent all the money for the treatment which took eight long months.



Magar from Durgapuri-Rajghat, Morang, has been serving the Armed Police Force (APF) for the last four years.



Magar hopes to continue her footballing career after a year´s rest. "I still have the desire to play but doctors have advised me to rest for a year. However, I´ll make a comeback," said Magar.
