UDAYAPUR, June 22: A bizarre incident has unfolded in Udayapur where a young man has reported to the police that his wife has turned into a man.

Nambar Rai, 28, hailing from Belka Municipality-6, Babla in the district, lodged a complaint with the local police office in Rampur on Wednesday, alleging that his wife, whom he married six months ago, has transformed into a man.

Rai entered into a love marriage with a woman from Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-8 in Bhojpur. However, according to the Rampur local police office, he unexpectedly approached them, claiming that his wife had turned into a man.

As the Area Police Office was preparing to mediate and conduct discussions with both parties, the wife suddenly fell ill and was promptly sent to Dharan for medical treatment. The police reported that she experienced vomiting and fainting due to high blood pressure.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the individual presenting himself as a woman is actually a 31-year-old man named Raju Rai. While Raju initially appeared to be a woman based on physical appearance and clothing, further examination confirmed his male identity.

"The suspect's body, attire, and overall appearance gave the impression of a woman, but our investigation established that the individual is indeed a man," stated the investigating police officer.

Prior to approaching the police, Rai had initially sought the intervention of the Municipal Judicial Committee. However, the committee redirected the matter to the Area Police Office, citing the need for police assistance to ascertain the truth as the municipality was in the process of developing a policy program.

Reportedly, Rai decided to seek help from the police after he and his spouse refrained from sharing a bed for six months, eventually discovering the shocking truth about his wife's gender identity.

Expressing his views on the matter, Basanta Magar, the Ward Chairman of Belka-6, suggested that Raju might have deceitfully posed as a woman and entered into a fraudulent marriage with Rai. Magar alleged that Raju pretended to be deeply in love with Rai, initially accepting monetary contributions.

Magar further revealed that Raju had concocted a story about a religious ritual, claiming that they could not share a bed until a puja (a religious ceremony) was conducted for the chula (father deity) in accordance with Kiranti traditions. This charade is now exposed as the couple's reason for living apart.

Additionally, investigations have discovered that Raju swindled Rai Out of Rs 270,000, cunningly exploiting the assumed identity of Rai's spouse.
