NUWAKOT, Feb 10: It has been more than a month since vehicular movement on the Galchi-Trishuli-Mailung-Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section is being halted for eight hours a day in order to speed up construction and complete the road section within the given time frame.
Since December 16, the road section is being closed for two shifts, from 6 to 9 am and 11am to 4 pm. As per the officials of the project, halting the movement of traffic has really speeded up the project. This project was signed on November 7, 2016 and was officially started from December 16. Though the project was given a 21 months deadline, it was halted for a long time due to various reasons.
As a result, six more months were added to the deadline so that the project could be completed by February 17, 2019, informed Subodh Devkota, chief of the project. According to Devkota, the project could not make commendable progress in the last year but the progress made in the last two months has been really encouraging.
Vehicular movement on Araniko Highway halted again
After the two months long Indian blockade, this road section which will connect Nepal with China has been a much anticipated project in Nepal. Earlier, only 10 percent work was completed in the road section in one year. That is why the project was speeded up by halting the vehicular movement. "There were various problems related to forest and grants but all of them have been solved now," said Devkota.
Traffic on the road will be halted for six hours a day from February 13. No vehicles will be allowed to move from 11 am to 5 pm in the evening. "We have aimed to complete 34% of the road construction within the next three months," said Devkota.
The government has sanctioned Rs 9.5 billion for the 82 km road stretch from Rasuwagadhi to Galchhi of Dhading. The project is being constructed by Tundi Construction Pvt Ltd. Some 18 km road from Mailung of Rasuwa to Syafrubesi will be constructed by Nepal Army while 18 km road section from Syafrubesi to Rasuwagadhi will be constructed by the government of China.
The road will be expanded to two lanes from Galchhi to Rasuwagadhi and four lanes from Galchhi and Nuwakot to Gangate Bazaar.
