BAGLUNG, May 1: The Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (WEAN) Baglung has elected a new executive committee during its first annual general meeting and convention. The event, which took place on Wednesday, elected an eleven-member committee for the upcoming three years.
The inaugural session was attended by Shova Gyawali, the President of the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal, and Basant Kumar Shrestha, the Mayor of Baglung Municipality.

The newly elected committee includes Uma Shakya as President, Yamkumari Thapa as Vice President, Nabina Shreesh Thapa as Secretary, Laxmi Kisan as Treasurer, Fulmaya Thapa Pun as Assistant Secretary, and Rita Gharti as Assistant Treasurer. The members are Laxmi Shrestha, Fulmaya Thapa, Parbati Pun, Laxmi Thapa, and Bihani Chhantyal Thapa.
Uma Shakya, who was also the chairperson of the association's previous ad hoc committee, emphasized the importance of empowering women for self-reliance. During the event, FWEAN President Gyawali urged local governments to focus on empowering women, particularly through entrepreneurship. She said, "To make women self-reliant, collaboration and support from all sectors are crucial. Agriculture can also be a means to empower women, and if we increase agricultural production and exports, the country’s economy will grow."
Basant Kumar Shrestha, Mayor of Baglung Municipality, highlighted that the local government is running various programs to encourage women’s entrepreneurship. "To make women self-reliant, it is essential to strengthen the family and, ultimately, the nation. The local government is taking steps in this direction," he said, adding that a budget for women’s entrepreneurship would be allocated in the upcoming fiscal year.
President Uma Shakya shared her efforts to guide women in Baglung Municipality towards entrepreneurship, while Parbati Paudel Regmi, the Gandaki Province representative of the federation, and other women entrepreneurs from Baglung participated in the event.
