KATHMANDU, Feb 27: With the House of Representatives (HoR) election just days away, more than one-third of the contesting political parties have yet to submit their election manifestos to the Election Commission (EC).
According to the EC’s Political Party Division, only 43 out of 65 political parties contesting the March 5 HoR election have so far furnished their manifestos to the EC. Parties were directed to publicly unveil their manifestos and mandatorily submit copies to the EC before commencing their election campaigns.
EC directs parties to submit manifestos by February 15
The EC had fixed February 16 as the start of the official campaign period. As per the election code of conduct, both political parties and candidates are required to submit their manifestos to the EC. Parties are also legally obligated to update and submit their organizational details to the EC annually.
A total of 65 political parties are in the fray under 61 election symbols in the upcoming HoR election.
