Two killed in Fast Track pickup accident in Makwanpur

The team rescued two critically injured persons from the wreckage and rushed them for treatment.

MAKWANPUR, June 11: Two people, including an engineer working on the Kathmandu–Terai/Madhesh Expressway (Fast Track) project, were killed in a pickup accident in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–8, Baidamar of Makwanpur district.



According to police, the accident took place at around 10:50 pm on Wednesday when a Yodha pickup vehicle (registration number Ba Pra 01-033 Cha 2144), travelling from Mandu Hydropower towards Ipa, lost control and plunged nearly 100 feet into a stream along an inner road.

A joint rescue team from Nepal Police and the Nepali Army, deployed at the Fast Track Sisneri base camp, reached the site shortly after being informed of the incident. The team rescued two critically injured persons from the wreckage and rushed them for treatment.


The injured were identified as 40–42-year-old Bodh Raj Budhathoki of Bhiman in Kamalamai Municipality–9, Sindhuli, a former constable of the Nepali Army, and 21-year-old Surya Yadav of Pachrauta Municipality–7, Bara, who was working as an engineer on the Fast Track project.


Both were taken to Hetauda Hospital at around 5 am on Thursday, where doctors declared them dead upon arrival. Their bodies have been kept at the hospital, and relatives have been informed, police said.


Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.


Authorities have urged drivers to follow speed limits, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, take adequate rest to prevent fatigue, and strictly adhere to road conditions and traffic regulations to reduce road accidents.
