The clash ensued after the locals attacked the police over the detention of Ran Bahadur Limbu of Chage-2. Police had held Limbu in accuse of killing porcupine, a wild animal. [break]
Police responded with firing two rounds of bullets in air and resorting with baton charge to contain the situation, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudip Sudip Raj Bhandari said.
Locals requested the police to settle the issue in the village rather than taking Limbu to the district headquarters for the further investigation as the animal was killed in a trap set by Limbu on his maize field. The clash ensued after the police refused.
