KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Tribhuvan University (TU) cancelled examination of compulsory English of the first year of Bachelor´s in Business Studies (BBS) Thursday after examinees boycotted it saying questions were set from old text books.
Hundreds of students tore the question papers and took to the streets in Kathmandu. They obstructed vehicular movements and burnt tires in different parts of the city as they shouted slogans against TU´s negligence.
“All questions were from old text books,” said Bhim Lama, a student at Public Youth Campus (PYC), Kathmandu. “This is TU´s utter negligence.”
Meanwhile, the Office of Examination Controller (OEC) of TU admitted that the questions were set from old curriculum. “It is due to technical weakness,” said Ramesh Joshi, assistant examinations controller.
Registrar Bhim Raj Adhikari, who heads Examination Board of TU, said that an investigation will be carried out. “It is the fault of those professors who set questions,” Adhikari said. “Those guilty professors will be punished after a thorough investigation.”
TU Rector Surya Lal Amatya said the Exams Modulation Committee (EMC) may equally be guilty in the incident. “Questions papers are not distributed without EMC approval,” Amatya added.
According to Adhikari, examination of compulsory English will be held soon. “We will probably reschedule this examination after some time,” he added.
