KATHMANDU, April 6: The valley witnessed one of the worst traffic snarls on Monday as the six Maoist parties including UCPN (Maoist) staged a rally protesting against the Supreme Court (SC) decision on some provisions of the Truth Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission on Enforced Disappearance.

The rally that began from Babarmahal passed through major thoroughfares before converging into a corner meeting at Shantibatika, Ratnapark.

The Maoist parties have been demanding that the SC roll back its decision citing it against the norms and spirit of Comprehensive Peace Accord, the Interim Constitution and 12-point agreement.Earlier, the Maoist parties also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala calling for correction of the recent Supreme Court verdict relating to the TRC.

The apex court on February 26 issued an order annulling some provisions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Enforced Disappearance, which it said, were against international human rights and humanitarian law standards. Notable of them were various provisions to grant amnesty.
