KALIKOT, Feb 1: Senior citizens are happy after learning that Tilagufa Municipality has started distributing social security allowances from the ward offices. Since many wards of Tilagufa Municipality are located in remote areas, it was very difficult for the beneficiaries of the social security allowances to go to the bank to collect the allowances. So happiness was reflected in the faces of the people when they were able to receive the allowances from their respective ward offices.
Parthimal Shahi, 79, of Tilagufa Municipality-7, who has been standing in line for hours at the bank to receive his senior citizen allowance, is very excited to receive the allowance for the second quarter of this fiscal year from the ward office. He says, “When they came to ask for votes during the elections, they said that they would start the distribution of elderly allowance from the ward level. At that time, I did not believe them. Now, I am very happy that they have done it.”

Similarly, 76-year-old Ratna BK of Tilagufa Municipality-7 also says that after getting the old age allowance from the ward, it feels like the local government has come to her home.
As many as 166 elderly people above 60 years of age and six disabled people have received social security allowances by visiting their ward offices of Tilagufa Municipality. Deep Bahadur Shahi, chairman of Ward no. 7, Chapre, said, “In coordination with the municipality and the ward office, the social security allowance distribution program was organized and social security allowances were distributed in the villages. He added that the opening of new accounts and saving money for the beneficiaries, including pregnant women and disabled have been started.
Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, the deputy mayor of the municipality, said that social security allowances are being provided by the ward offices for the convenience of the elderly as they are geographically far away.
Shankar Prasad Upadhyay, mayor of Tilagufa Municipality said that many people are happy to get the social security allowance from their ward offices.
The municipality said that this campaign will continue in all wards. On Tuesday, social security allowances were distributed to the people of Ward-8, Okharvitta, as well.
