The secretariat meeting concluded that former King Shah is actively trying to restore the monarchy. “Looking at his statements, it’s clear that he still holds hope that the monarchy can be reinstated and that the current democratic achievements can be reversed,” said Deputy General Secretary of CPN (UML) Pradeep Gyawali after the meeting.
The CPN-UML reviewed former King Gyanendra Shah's statements issued on February 19 and April 14, as well as the pro-monarchy demonstrations held on March 9 and March 28.
The party stated that Shah should take moral responsibility for the violent incident at Tinkune. It also said that if investigations find him guilty, he should be prepared to face legal action. “The former king must take moral responsibility. If the government’s investigation confirms his involvement, he will be brought within the scope of legal action,” said Gyawali.
The meeting also discussed the recent activities of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. According to the CPN-UML, Dahal has been making continuous efforts to change the government.
“Prachanda seems to be struggling with the discomfort of being outside the government. Merely talking about changing the government reflects nothing but a desire for power,” he added.
Dahal had stated in Chitwan on Sunday that a new government would be formed in the Nepali New Year.
