Suspended Judge Giri released after acquittal in marital rape case

Suspended Judge Bhuwan Giri has been released from prison after being acquitted in the marital rape case. According to the Dillibazar prison administration, Giri was released on Monday morning.

KATHMANDU, April 14: Suspended Judge Bhuwan Giri has been released from prison after being acquitted in the marital rape case. According to the Dillibazar prison administration, Giri was released on Monday morning.


The Patan High Court acquitted him on Sunday in the marital rape case. A joint bench of Judges Lal Bahadur Kunwar and Dilli Ratna Shrestha gave him the acquittal.

Previously, a single bench of Judge Durga Prasad Bhusal at Kathmandu District Court had found him guilty in May 2024.


A single bench of Judge Durga Prasad Bhusal at Kathmandu District Court had earlier found Giri guilty in the marital rape case. He was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of Rs 300,000.


Giri's wife had filed the case, accusing him of marital rape. Following this, the Judicial Council had suspended him from his position.
