KATHMANDU, April 3: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to imprison Judge Bhuwan Giri on charge of marital rape.
On Wednesday, a division bench of SC Justices Hari Phuyal and Til Prasad Shrestha overturned the orders of both the district court and the high court, which had previously ordered Giri's release on bail.
Judge Giri jailed on marital rape charges
Judge Giri’s wife Aarti Giri had filed a complaint at the Kapilvastu District Police Office accusing her husband of marital rape, leading to his arrest and investigation by the police.
Despite District Public Prosecutor's Office prosecuted the case of marital rape, the District and High Courts had released Giri on bail.
Judge Giri is under suspension after the case was filed.
