LALITPUR, Nov 23: In a bid to promote digital safety and protect children and young people online, ChildSafeNet and TikTok have launched a collaborative initiative. The project aims to educate children, parents, and teachers on best practices for navigating the digital world securely.
The initiative will begin with digital safety training sessions in three provinces of Nepal – Bagmati, Gandaki, and Koshi – marking a significant step towards fostering a safer and more empowering online environment for the country's youth, according to a press statement issued by the organizers.
As part of this collaboration, a Digital Safety Workshop was held on November 22, 2024, in Lalitpur, Nepal, with the participation of over 40 students from 20 schools and colleges. The workshop provided a platform for teens and young people to share their experiences with digital technology, discuss its benefits, and address potential risks they face online.

The workshop covered essential topics related to online safety, including cyberbullying, hate speech, misinformation, online grooming, and the dangers of exposure to harmful content such as sexual and violent material. Other critical issues discussed included online sexual abuse, sextortion, non-consensual intimate image abuse, and child sexual abuse/exploitation.
Anil Raghuvanshi, Founder and President of ChildSafeNet, led an interactive session where he addressed young people's relationship with digital technology. Participants gained valuable insights into TikTok's community guidelines and those of other popular social media platforms, equipping them with the knowledge to navigate the digital space responsibly.
A highlight of the workshop was an interactive panel discussion with prominent content creators who are popular among young people. Miss Nepal World 2023, Srichchha Pradhan; fashion designer and content creator, Parakram Rana; and actor/dancer, Angel Rai, shared their digital experiences, discussed the challenges of toxic comments, and offered practical strategies for managing online interactions.
The workshop concluded with participants collaborating to create recommendations aimed at enhancing online safety. These recommendations will be directed to key stakeholders, including governments, law enforcement agencies, schools, digital platforms, civil society organizations, parents, and young people themselves.
