TAPLEJUNG, Jan 25: Three Armed Police Force (APF) personnel sustained minor injuries in Taplejung district on Saturday after a group of protestors demonstrating against the construction of the Pathibhara Cable Car turned hostile towards the security personnel deployed to control the mob.
The clash erupted after the security personnel fired four rounds of tear gas shells to control the agitators, armed with domestic weapons, after they carried out aggressive activities against the cable car project.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Netra Prasad Sharma stated that the security forces acted after the protesters turned violent.

Spokesperson for the District Administration Office, Taplejung, Sandipa Khadka, informed that Armed Police Force Assistant Sub Inspector Somdev Yadav, Assistant Head Constable Tikaram Khawas, and Constable Sanjiv Basnet were injured in the clash.
Chief District Officer Sharma described how tensions escalated when security forces tried to control the group armed with homemade weapons in the Baludanda area resorted to violence. "The group, carrying homemade weapons and sticks, started behaving aggressively, forcing us to respond with tear gas to manage the situation," Sharma said.
Situation normal, Commitment to peace and security
Chief District Officer Sharma confirmed that the situation in the Pathibhara area has now returned to normalcy. Sharma stated that a leader of the protesting group ‘declared war’ against him, using objectionable and offensive language. However, Sharma emphasized that such actions would not deter him and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and security.
"I serve as a government representative to ensure peace and security. I view such incidents solely as security challenges and remain committed to strengthening security in line with policies and regulations," said Sharma.
The District Administration Office assured that it will take all necessary steps to maintain peace and order in the Pathibhara area and will enhance security arrangements further.
