Three killed in UN vehicle accident

ITAHARI, Aug 7: Three people died when a United Nations (UN) van collided with a tipper on Tuesday in Inaruwa municipality-6 of Sunsari district.



As the over-speeding tipper (Na 4 Kha 143) that lost its balance after hitting a motorcycle (Ba 16 Pa 5148) rammed into the UN van (66-1-1709), van driver Radheshyam Thapa, motorcyclist Bijaya Kumar Sharma and Indian national Buddha Maljain, who was riding pillion, lost their lives. [break]They all died while being rushed to the hospital.



Thapa, 40, was trapped in the crushed van. He was pulled out of the van with the help of a crane. Two more UN staffers, Ramnarayan Sah and Dhirendra Sah of Siraha, have also sustained injuries.



Ramnarayan is receiving treatment at Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar while Dhirendra has been admitted to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science, Dharan for treatment.



"The tipper first hit the motorcycle and then the UN van," said Jay Prakash Sah, an eye-witness to the accident. The tipper driver has fled the accident site.
