Held at the Nepal Tourism Board since Friday, the seminar has recitations, theatrical performances and musical rendezvous. [break]
The inaugural ceremony had Litterateur Kamal Mani Dixit, Rasthtra Kavi (Poet Laureate) Madhav Prasad Ghimire and Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad under one roof. While Ghimire and Dixit recited poems of Tagore, singer Sangita Pradhan and Robin Sharma rendered a musical.
To lend out their views on various topics the conference has an array of intellectuals sharing their thoughts on the life and influences of the Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature Rabindra Nath Tagore.
While Dr. Indra Nath Choudhuri, Dr Uma Das Gupta, Dr Sachidananda Mohanty, Dr Sumatheendra Nadig, Dr Bhalchandra Nemade and Sanu Lama are representing India Nepali speakers include Dr Abhi Subedi, Dr Ammaraj Joshi, Dr Arun Gupto, Dr Anirudra Thapa, Dr Sanjeev Uprety and Pushpa Acharya.
Speaking on the importance of the conference in Nepal, Arun Gupto clarified that Tagore was an internationally acclaimed person, a man of immense intellect and of interest to Nepali students as well. “Many students in the departments of English do research work in the field of South Asian literatures and cultures,” he opined.
Gupto presented a talk on the very first day of the event on ‘Tagore’s World at Home.’ On the same day Pushpa Acharya discussed ‘Ethics of Friendship and Baul Influences.’
On the second day Dr. Sanjeev Uprety put out his views on ‘Education, Literature and Tagore in Nepal.’ “We use a heavy amount of theory the same amount of jargons, hardly paying attention to practical classes,” he opined adding “we can learn from Tagore as to the importance of transcending beyond the walls of the classrooms.”
The final day of the conference, Sunday will have Dr Bhalchandra Nemade share his ideas on ‘The trauma of History in the 19th Century and Tagore’s Analysis,’ discourse by Dr Sachidananda Mohanty on ‘Tagores Idea of Nationalism.’
Also there will be a talk by Dr. Ammaraj Joshi, on ‘Fruit Gathering: Discourse on Science and Eco-poetics,’ Dr Anirudra Thapa will talk on ‘Home and the world, No More: Female Iconography and Tagore Dissent on Nationalism’.
The conference is set to close with theatrical performance by Salil Kanika Subedi on Tagore’s ‘Sesher Kabita.’
