KALIKOT, Feb 24: A test flight is set to take place at Suntharali Airport in Kalikot on Monday.
The only airport in Kalikot, which has been under construction for almost 38 years, is going to be inaugurated on February 26. The construction of this airport was completed on February 23, 2023.
In the year and a half since its completion, the inauguration date for the project has been scheduled three times. Pradeep Bohora, spokesperson for Narharinath Rural Municipality, mentioned that after surpassing the third scheduled inauguration date, the ceremony is now slated for February 26, marking the fourth attempt.
According to him, there is a program to conduct the test flight at the airport on February 26 by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sudan Kirati.
For this, it has been informed that the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has already sent a notice to the office of Narharinath Rural Municipality.
The actual works to build an airport in Sunthrali of Kalikot started in 2042 BS. On the initiative of the local residents, the then District Development Committee of Kalikot had allocated an amount of Rs 100,000 and started the construction of the airport.
