Students submit memo demanding discount on transport fares

KATHMANDU, March 11: Different student organizations Monday submitted a memorandum to Minister for Physical Planning and Transport Management, Hridayash Tripathi demanding immediate implementation of 45 per cent discount to students after withdrawing hike on public transportation fares.



A total of 11 student unions including the Nepal Students Union (NSU) and the All Nepal National Free Students´ Union (ANNFSU) submitted the seven-point memo to the Minister at his office at Singha Durbar.



Receiving the memo, Minister Tripathi assured that a decision will be taken after holding necessary discussion on it by forming a taskforce regarding the demand put forth by students´ unions, said NSU Spokesperson, UP Lamichhane quoting the Minister.



Lamichhane said that they urged the Minister to address their demands immediately even if Minister Tripathi assured them to make a decision by forming a taskforce.



Before this, the students organised a chakkajam in front of all the campuses in Kathmandu valley for an hour demanding withdrawal of hike on public transportation fare and immediate declaration of date for election of the free students union.
