The campus administration said it was unable to run classes after students padlocked the entrance gate and laboratory building demanding reduction in donation amount. “All activities of the campus have come to a halt after students padlocked the college without any prior notice,” said Pashupati Mishra, the campus chief.
However, agitating students have claimed that they were compelled to padlock the college as the college administration turned a deaf ear to their demands. “We made our demands three months ago but the college ignored them,” said Bikash Limbu, a student.
According to students, other constituent colleges of the Tribhuvan University accept less donations. “The college receives donations from other sources as well. So it is not fair to take hefty donations from students,” Limbu added.
The agitating students have warned that they would not withdraw their protests until their demands are met. Bsc physics students pay Rs 15,000 each per year as donation to the college.
Campus chief Mishra, however, said donation refund was not possible in the middle of the academic session. “I can assure that the donation amount will not be increased,” said Mishra.
