COLOMBO, April 22: Sri Lanka's headline inflation dropped to 49.2 percent in March from 53.6 percent in February this year, said the Department of Census and Statistics here on Friday.
The department, publishing its National Consumer Price Index, said food inflation dropped from 49 percent to 42.3 percent during the period and non-food inflation from 57.4 percent to 54.9 percent. The department said the prices of food items such as rice, vegetables, fresh fish, potatoes, dhal, dry fish, chicken and spices decreased in March compared to February.

However, it said the prices of items such as coconut, eggs, coconut oil, green gram, rice flour and tea increased. According to the department, in the non-food category, the prices of textiles, footwear and housing increased, with the prices of utilities such as water and electricity also increasing.
