Effect of inflation in Kathmandu Valley: Prices of food and beverages rise to 7.95 percent

KATHMANDU, April 14: Inflation has increased in the Kathmandu Valley this year compared to mid-February last year. According to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the inflation rate in the Kathmandu Valley in mid-February this year is 7.95 percent. In mid-February last year, the inflation rate was 6.31 percent.

KATHMANDU, April 14: Inflation has increased in the Kathmandu Valley this year compared to mid-February last year. According to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the inflation rate in the Kathmandu Valley in mid-February this year is 7.95 percent. In mid-February last year, the inflation rate was 6.31 percent.


Similarly, in mid-February, inflation was 7.50 percent in Terai, 6.67 percent in the hill areas and 8.07 percent in the mountain region. In mid-February 2022, inflation was 7.36 percent in Terai, 7.69 percent in the hill areas and 7.56 percent in the mountains.

According to the data of NRB, the inflation rate of food and beverage was 5.64 percent and the inflation of the non-food and services was 8.87 percent in mid-February.


Likewise, the year-on-year price index of cereal grains and their sub-category increased by 14.35 percent, restaurant and hotel by 14.09 percent, spices by 10.88 percent, tobacco products by 10.83 percent and alcoholic beverages by 8.78 percent.


Under the non-food and services group, the y-o-y price index of the transport subgroup increased by 13.23 percent, health by 10.39 percent, housing and utilities by 9.72 percent, recreation and culture by 8.81 percent, and furnishings and household equipment by 8.79 percent.
