SPORTS BRIEFS: NTV, Avenues TV to air World Cup football live

KATHMANDU, May 26: For the first time two television channels of Nepal will air the World Cup football live. The national broadcaster Nepal Television and Avenues Television from the private sector will telecast the World Cup football matches.



The sole authorized television rights holder of 2010 FIFA World Cup for Nepal Media Hub Private Limited made this announcement amidst a function in the capital on Wednesday. [break]



“Avenues TV will telecast all 64 matches of the World Cup live while NTV will show all the matches other than the 25 matches to be held at 19:45 NST,” stated Media Hub Executive Director Som Prasad Dhital on Wednesday. The matches at 19:45 NST will not be aired by Nepal TV as the regular news is scheduled at 20:00 NST.



The transmission of all other international sports channels supposed to telecast the World Cup live will be barred during the time of live telecasting of the matches.



According to Dhital, Media Hub has reserved all broadcasting rights through terrestrial, cable, DTH and satellite media across the nation. “Media Hub has spent about 40 million rupees in total to reserve the rights and has targeted to earn Rs 60 million from the matches,” Dhital added.



Nepal TV General Manager Bishwa Prakash Maskey, Avenues TV Executive Director Bhaskar Rajkarnikar, All Nepal Football Association President Ganesh Thapa, among others, spoke on the occasion.





Training for coaches



KATHMANDU, May 26: An Olympic Solidarity Technical Course for basketball coaches began in Kathmandu on Wednesday.



The eight-day course includes theory classes in the morning at Trinity College and practical lessons at the Covered Hall of the Dasharath Stadium in the afternoon for coaches under the age of 35.



There are altogether 18 participants -- eight from Kathmandu, three from Lalitpur, two each from Kaski and Sunsari, and one each from Jhapa, Chitwan and Nepal Army. International Basketball Association´s specialist Macamon is training the Nepali coaches.



The course is being organized by Nepal Basketball Association with the support of Nepal Olympic Committee.
