Film Development Board to take action against cinema halls that showcase live World Cup football matches

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Film Development Board has directed cinema halls not to broadcast live World Cup football matches in cinema halls. The board has also warned to take action if cinema halls do not abide by the rules.

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Film Development Board has directed cinema halls not to broadcast live World Cup football matches in cinema halls. The board has also warned to take action if cinema halls do not abide by the rules.


The Board made it clear that only movies can be screened in the cinema halls in accordance with the provisions mentioned in Schedule 7 of the Motion Picture Production, Exhibition and Distribution Rules 2075 BS under which license has been granted to the cinema halls for the specific purpose of exhibiting motion pictures.

The Board has also issued notices to all the district administration offices and the Nepal Motion Pictures Association, warning that if they do not follow the rules, it will take action in accordance with the laws.


Earlier, multiplexes in the Kathmandu Valley had made agreements to show live football matches in coordination with Media Hub. The halls had also opened advance booking and announced that they will show live football matches during the World Cup.
