SPORTS BRIEFS: National, Reliance into QFs

KATHMANDU, July 28: National Camups and Reliance International Academy secured quarterfinal berth on Saturday in the First Bir Ganeshman Memorial Inter-college (+2) Basketball Tournament under way in the capital. National thumped U-2 College 51-27 with 14 points from Rakesh Shrestha at the Golfutar Court. Reliance registered a comfortable 40-29 win over Texas.



Rinji Sherpa contributed 14 points for the winning side. GoldenGate A and Morgan also booked ticket for last eight. [break]GoldenGate edged past Bridgewater 40-31 with 13 points of Ajay Nepal. Morgan ousted GoldenGate B 50-30. Tshering Takuri netted the highest 20 points for Morgan.



Judo-gis distributed


KATHMANDU: Mount Everest Judo and Martial Arts Center, Nepal, on Thursday gave away 30 sets of Judo-gis to children homes under CONCIN Nepal. Though the center has been training judo to the children of 10 different children homes, the judo-gis were given on the basis of participation in judo tournaments and the results achieved. Altogether six children homes were the judo-gis.



The judo-gis were made available with the support of Heikki Latheenkorya of Finland. Latheenkorya had provided judo-gis to children homes in the past as well.
