KATHMANDU, May 31: Sita Air has said that it will operate all its flights to Karnali province from Surkhet Airport from June 29 onwards.

The airline has far been operating all its flights to STOL airfields of Karnali province from Nepalgunj airport.

Sit Air has been serving remote airports of Karnali province from Nepalgunj airport since 2008.

Officials of the airline say that they chose to move the base for flights to Karnali province to Surkhet, considering the requirement for air transport to and from the provincial capital.

“Looking at the transforming social and political scenario of the country following adoption of the federal system, we have taken this step to address people's demand for easy air service,” Rajendra Bahadur Singh, managing director of Sita Air, said.

According to Singh, only scheduled flights from Nepalgunj will be moved to Surkhet. The airline will continue to operate all its foreign chartered flights service from Nepalgunj airport.

“We hope that our decision will help the provincial government of Karnali Province to provide easy transport facility for people of the province,” he added.

In order to operate scheduled flights to airfields of Karnali Province from Surkhet Airport, senior managing director of Sita Air, Ghanashyam Raj Acharya and Principal Secretary of Karnali Province signed the agreement on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the airline.

Sita Air operates a fleet of four Dornier DO-228 aircraft, flying to destinations like Lukla, Tumlingar, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Simikot, Rara, Jumla, Bajura and Dolpa, among others.
