KATHMANDU, March 29: The government has decided to close all educational institutions for four days owing to the weather emergency.

An emergency meeting held at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Monday took the decision in view of the adverse weather conditions for the past few days. Speaking at the meeting, Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha said that the decision was taken to ensure safety of the students and teachers amid the worsening weather conditions throughout the country.

Officials including the secretaries at the ministry--  Ram Prasad Thapaliya, Dr Sanjaya Sharma -- joint secretary and spokesperson Dipak Sharma and joint secretary Dr Hari Lamsal among others were present during the meeting.

Minister Shrestha had earlier consulted Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in this connection.

With this, the educational institutions across the country will remain closed from Tuesday to Friday, according to Spokesperson Sharma.

Due to wildfire in more than 54 districts, the quality of air has deteriorated sharply for the past few days, with a thick smog blanketing most of the country. Meteorologists say that it would take a few more days for the air to become clear and breathable.
